Seriously, my car is an accident magnet. I get through a nice long weekend of fun driving down around Deal’s Gap and I then I get hit coming home through Virginia on I-81. Lady says “I looked up and then you were there, so I slammed the brakes and froze. I guess I tried to swerve but then I hit you”. Good thing she at least admitted all fault and has proper insurance but seriously??? I just don’t understand why people think that slamming on the brakes and trying to turn at the same time is a good idea. And I really do not get how people can hit someone on a dry, straight road with plenty of sight distance.

It kind of sounds like she’s trying to convince you that she did everything she could to avoid a wreck. But that doesn’t change the fact that she had to look UP from... whatever it was that she decided was more important than driving. (A phone, I’d bet.)

Oh yeah, it pretty much doesn’t matter what she says. Of course she tried to not hit me, doesn’t help anything though. Either way, she is way more screwed. Insurance premiums will go up for her, she will have to pay for her car too (brand new Volvo, minor paint damage but will need repair). But I don’t care, as long as my car gets fixed quickly. Would be nice to get a whole new rear bumper cover but they may be able to pop out the dent and touch up paint. Depends on the shop I guess.

Traffic had been moving at like 40mph for a while (road is a 70mph all through there). I was actually still moving before she hit me. So I have no idea what kind of stupid that lady is. All I know is I was slowing down a little for the traffic ahead and then I hear SCREEEEEEECH and see a Volvo coming at me. I slammed it into 2nd and floored it but I didn’t get very far before she hit me. Only had like a second to try and move.

Wow! Props for the evasive maneuver. It doesn’t take much to zone out on the highway. I’ve never been rear-ended, and wonder how long I’ll be able to keep the streak alive. If I break it, hopefully it’ll be in the Sienna :\

I am just glad they didn’t hit me dead on. Then the trunk lid would probably have gotten screwed up and worse too. I just wished I had noticed sooner because I could have moved into the shoulder a little and accelerated sooner. There was quite a bit of space in front of me since I was keeping a proper following distance to avoid being an idiot like her.
